Florida man charged in the murder of a Lake Villa Bears fan

A Florida man has been charged in the murder of William Christopher Pettry, a Lake Villa man who was in Jacksonville to watch the Bears game Sunday.

Matthew Hinson, 27, has been charged with one count of felony murder.

Police say Pettry, 42, was stabbed in a downtown Jacksonville bar on Sunday morning after a fight broke out.

The bar is located near the stadium where the Bears played the Jaguars, but Pettry never made it to the game.

Meanwhile, Pettry’s family in Lake Villa is looking for answers.

In a Facebook post, his wife said she is angry and confused.

Other relatives remembered how much Pettry loved Chicago.

“He was a very good natured guy, never in any trouble. He owns his own business, Pettry Construction and Remodeling. He has three children. He has been married quite a few years now and lives in Lake Villa. A standup guy, a huge Chicago guy. He loves, obviously, the Bears. That’s what he was down in Jacksonville for,” said Quincy Asbury Jr., cousin.

Hinson is due in a Jacksonville court Monday morning.
