According to The Sun, record execs were extremely worried back in 2002, saying that the Stronger singer’s weight was out of control, and that her career would suffer should she not slim down.
By 2006, she was at her lightest, but Aguilera has said ‘no more,’ and wants to be herself: “During the promotion of my album Stripped, I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl,” she explained. “The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings! Let me tell you, that wasn’t an easy pill for them to swallow. Aguilera, whilst famous for her powerful voice, is also renown for her feisty attitude, so perhaps record bosses should have known better than to try and pin her down. “I told them, ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it. They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body. My body can’t put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore – my body is just not on the table that way anymore.” Good for her!
The story comes just after the 31-year-old released her aptly titled single, Your Body. Her upcoming album, Lotus, which, she told US Online, “represents a celebration of the new me,” will be out November 17, 2012.
