Stabbing suspect shot, killed by officers

A man was shot and killed by police last night after a stabbing at a party near downtown.

It happened at around 11:30pm at a house party on Nagle near Leeland. According to police, family members had gathered at the home before a wedding that was being held this weekend.

Some sort of argument started among the people and that argument then moved outside to the street. Police were called after a suspect reportedly stabbed three people.

When police arrived, they saw the suspect armed with a knife. The officers ordered him to drop the knife and that’s when he allegedly attempted to go after the officers.

“One of the officers, in fear for his safety and that of his partner, discharged his duty weapon striking the suspect,” said HPD spokesperson Kese Smith. “The suspect then continued to charge aggressively towards the officers. The second officer then discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect who was pronounced dead on the scene.”

The three victims who were stabbed were all taken to local hospitals to be treated. One was taken in critical condition, one in serious condition and the other was said to have minor injuries.

At this point, the deceased victim has not been identified. But he is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.
