A man with a gunshot wound to the head crashed into a northeast Houston apartment building last night.
The shooting happened around 10:15pm on Crofton near Trudy. Investigators say the driver of the car was shot in the back of his head while sitting inside the vehicle. He then reportedly stepped on the gas pedal and slammed into the apartments, driving at least three feet inside the building.
Police say the 33-year-old driver had last been seen talking to several young men before the shooting. According to investigators, those men were seen running off after the shots were fired.
As for the people inside the apartment that was hit, we know several of them were hit by flying debris and bricks.
“The sheet rock came flying at us and then we ran and jumped on the floor in the hallway,” said witness LaTonya Williams.
“When the car hit, we just took off running and the debris was coming at us,” said witness Chantel Davis.
The driver was a taken to a Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
In the meantime, detectives are continuing to interview several witnesses to the shooting. They are hoping their information will lead them to the suspects.
