
The Fulton County Police Department is looking for the driver who hit an 8-year-old girl and fled the scene.
It happened at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on Campbellton Road.
Police said it appeared that Jaleah Felix and her older sibling were crossing the street, heading to a park, when the child lost her shoe in the roadway. When she went to retrieve it, a vehicle struck her.
The girl was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but later died.
Cpl. Kay Lester with the Fulton County Police Department said they are looking for a dark-colored pickup or SUV-style truck.
Tyronn Wilkins witnessed the crash and ran to help Jaleah.
“I tried what I could. I couldn’t get her to respond. Finally, the paramedics came,” Wilkins said.
Authorities are urging the driver to turn themself in.
